This study compares the motives of men and women studying education with those studying computers as regards to career choice, family and career perceptions and gender orientation. The research tool was a questionnaire with a sample population of 221 participants. The findings indicate those majoring in education (men and women) to be motivated mostly by the need to 'contribute to the individual and to society' and to frequently possess modern perceptions of family and career. In addition, the findings reveal that the most prevalent orientation in the male group was "androgyny" – a combination of both male and female characteristics. Conversely, the computer majors (men and women) were more motivated by 'status and financial gain' and perceived relationships in a more conservative manner. The findings show that the males usually manifested a masculine orientation. The most prevalent gender orientation in the two female groups was the feminine orientation.
