שינוי מקום עבודה: הזדמנות להתחדשות עצמית של מורות לאורך הקריירה

For many years, the teaching profession was perceived as a "conservative" profession whose practitioners preferred routine and shied away from any kind of change in their work. In recent years, however, we have witnessed a range of career shifts by teachers: the shift to teaching a different subject, the shift to working in a different school, or the shift to teaching agegroups that differ from the ones they had agreed to teach. The present paper attempts to train the spotlight on this phenomenon and its implications for the course of the teacher’s career. Based on interviews with nine teachers who experienced mid-life inter-organizational career shift, the paper sketches the stages of the shift, touches upon its motives, and devotes an in-depth discussion to its positive results, which are reflected in the teachers' self-renewal. In addition, the paper calls attention to the factors that influenced the results of the shift, and concludes with the effects of the research on the occurrence of formal career shift in the education system.
